has anyone stayed in a filthy house?

I accepted a 2 week in-home job and this is day 3 of the stay. I did the meet and greet in the pets home and noticed that it looked quite "lived in", but that was tp be expected with 2 dogs and 3 kids. It was not until I actually "moved in" for the stay that I realized just how awful the house is. By the way, during the meet and greet, the owner told me "no house work, just take care of the dogs". Well, the house is covered in cobwebs! window sills, under furniture, ceilings, etc. I see lots of spiders as well. Last night as I went to get in bed (I'm in the guest room) my bed was covered in ants!! This family is very organic, green and vegan. I'm sure pesticides are a no-no. The owners are gone for another 10 days (out of the country). I'm not sure I can handle another 10 days of this! It's creepy and grosses me out. I've left a message with http://Rover.com and should hear from them today. Any advise? Has anyone else dealt with this?

I'm trying to figure out what to do in my current client's home. She has a bedroom with two old litter boxes that are piled up with cat poop and pee. There's poop on the floor and baseboards. It smells disgusting. I don't know how to tell her it's a biohazard... She has 8 animals! 3 cats, 5 dogs.

I am trying to figure out what to do, too. The house I"m supposed to stay in for two weeks is disgusting!

I don't have experience with this situation, but I'd be inclined to contact the client and very politely tell them about the ant and spider problem and offer that you'd be glad to use whatever they prefer to solve the problem, so that you can continue to stay there and care for their pets. If they insist that they don't want you to remedy that, I'd nicely reply that you'll gladly continue to care for their pets with visits, walks, and feeding, (if you're willing to go back&forth) but are not comfortable staying there. If they really want someone to stay there, Rover can try to help find another sitter that is willing (it sure wouldn't be me) and handle the rest.

Thank you so much for your input! I actually did call Rover and the poor gal was stumped! So this is what I did; I messaged the home owner but have not heard back from them. They are overseas so the time difference could be a factor. I looked up organic remedies on the internet and apparently ants don't like mint. Who knew!? So I made a mint infused water and have sprayed it around the floor boards and windows in the room I'm sleeping in. I do have a can of Raid if need be! I've swept, vacuumed and washed all linens. My fingers are crossed!

Great to hear. The time diff. & internet access could be limiting communications. Glad you shared the mint remedy! I've had massive ant attacks appear out of nowhere and didn't know about that. Smart that you washed the bed linens.

Oh, my goodness! I think I would clean anyway. At the very least, clean the bedroom. You can't be expected to sleep with ants and spiders.

I actually looked high and low for a vacuum cleaner and couldn't find one. I went home and brought mine back here. The do have a broom though! At least my room and the living room are decent now!

I have had this experience. it is so frustrating. dishes in the sink, dirty floors and furniture...trash full with flies all around. ugh. I felt like charging more because I literally HAD to clean it,. it stunk.
