I'm hearing impaired how do I alert owners about this?

Hi All,

I'm deaf without my hearing devices, which makes me nervous staying at others homes. I don't sleep with my devices in and wouldn't want to, as they could easily be eaten by pets. How do I go about talking to owners about this?

I saw that you mentioned it in your profile. Being transparent when messaging before meet&greet would be wise. You could let them know that you were hearing devices and you’re more comfortable sleeping in your own home. Let them know your routine would be, as to the hours that you would be available to take care of their pets needs. I don’t think that you need to tell them that hearing devices could be eaten by pets, which might make them alarmed. Many sitters will not sleep in someone else’s home.

Since you have very limited availability, combined with your preference to not sleep elsewhere, I would suggest removing the “house sitting” service from your profile. If someone wants you on available dates, they can always book multiple drop in visits or walks.

Agree with Deb about transparency and that you shouldn't offer house sitting because that requires you to sleep at the client's home.

A pet owner shouldn't have any issues when you do drop-ins and walks. However, if their pet is boarding with you, what do you have set up to ensure you are able to deal with their pet during the night if, for instance, it starts to bark or cry or otherwise demonstrate that something might be wrong? I would think a pet parent would want to know how you intend to respond.
