Do you offer dog owners the option of only having their dog in your care?

Do you give owners the option of their dog being your only guest doggie for a higher rate? After reading another poster's ideas, I was thinking this might be a nice thing to offer at 1.5-1.75 times my regular rate (basically my standard rate plus the additional dog fee). Is this a good idea? Does it make a difference that I have two dogs? What should the raised fee be if my standard rate is $20/night?

I have not increased my rate when a pet parent wanted their pup to be the only visiting dog during their vacation. I understand what you are saying, but I think creating trust and a repeat visitor is worth not hosting another dog while they are here. Good question though.

I use my standard rate for 1 and 1st dog and a discount rate for the 2nd and 3rd from the same home. If you are asking about taking only 1 Pet Parents dog and No other dogs because they requested or the dog has issues, I did that when I first started sitting for rover and charged my standard rate.. They became my repeats and never overlapped. If I promised the Pet Parent their dog would be the Only dog, I would respect their request. As my business started to build, I was not always available to take their dog.

I'm not sure why you are asking about a higher rate for only one dog. If you usually host more than one dog at a time for your standard rate, then it seems to me your rate should actually be lower for the solo dog.

I only host one dog at a time, unless they come from the same family. For multiple dogs I charge my standard rate for the first dog then $5 less for the second dog.

Since I can take two dogs, the higher rate would be because they would be keeping me from having another dog. Therefore, I would be losing out on $20/night if an owner wanted their dog to be the only Rover doggie in my care.

I understand now. I hope other sitters who take multiple dogs will chime in here and offer their perspective.

I haven't used it, as I don't usually have overlapping stays and have only declined a second booking if I felt the two guest dogs would not be a good match (which I would continue to do anyway), but I do advocate offering the option to pet owners to reserve a private slot if you aren't usually fully booked. If you're frequently fully booked or turning customers away, it may be better to avoid clients who require private care to open yourself up to more full price customers.
