How should we deal with clients who do not have their dog established at a vet yet?

For example, its tough to get a vet appointment in my particular area (and probably elsewhere). A dog I am planning to board only has an out of town vet, since they recently moved. The owner requested that I do seek care of course should her dog get sick or get injured.

If I go to an emergency vet in this case, how would I pay? This particular client also may not have phone service where they are going.

Have the client set up something at the emergency vet just in case and they would be charged, not you. It is also a good idea that you have their permission to take the dog for treatment in writing.

I know it is not your responsibility to inform the client but they make it a priority to find a local vet because emergency services can be extremely pricey, at least they are here. Significantly higher than being seen by a regular vet.
