Why are people not tipping me for boarding their dog at my home?

I am shocked at how many clients do NOT tip me after I take excellent care of their pets.

It seems like before COVID every one of my clients tipped. And now after COVID NO ONE has tipped me. I do excellent work. I take multiple pictures and videos and send daily. I follow their crazy instructions for what to feed and what to do for their pet to the exact detail. My goal is so that they can leave their pet with me without worrying that their pet will be out of their routine. I receive excellent reviews. I do not think that pet owners understand that I do NOT receive the total amount that they pay because Rover takes a percentage (which is cool). I have adjusted pet pick up time so owner could pick up pet in the middle of the night 1:50am AND STILL NO TIP.

You sound like you do excellent work. And deserve a tip. I was in the service industry waiting table so I understand tipping. But sometimes I don't think about it other than that restaurants. Sorry.

You know your local market far better than me, but I’d suggest that maybe your boarding rate is too low, since it’s only $3 more than your daycare rate. If you raise your rate, you might feel more fairly compensated and not tip reliant.

In the 10 years I've been sitting on Rover, I think only one person ever tipped me and that was because their dog behaved so badly. Others whose dogs who also continually peed and/or pooped in the house never compensated me for my extra work and the damage their dogs may have caused. I don't know why the people around here never think to tip their dog sitter when they'll tip a bartender for laying down a drink in front them. People seem to tip for everything else, except their dog sitter.

You are very lucky that people have been tipping you in the past. I suspect they've stopped possibly because of the economy and all the fees Rover loads on them.
