Can Rover handle days sitters can't make it, or make suggestions based on distance to pet owners' home?

I get it, we're all busy. Many of the people offering services on Rover have other things to do, or other jobs. However, if a sitter, daily drop-in, etc. cannot make it on particular days, there should be some mechanism that Rover will find the replacement for that day, or make suggestions based on distance from your home.

I found out that for the month of July (pretty much) the person I vetted and had come over can do many days. It falls on my shoulders now to try to workaround this situation. And July happens to be my busiest month, a a couple of days needing two drop ins on the same day!

Maybe Rover should have a local list of alternates that we pet owners can select from, so we can keep the main person, but not have to basically start over or/and find a replacement for days they can't do it.

I’d advise that pet owners would benefit from selecting their two best matched sitters and informing both people that they plan to alternate between the two. That way if one’s not available or becomes ill, etc., you can contact the other and if booked, Rover can switch the payment over to the other one. You and your pet will probably benefit more from that arrangement than hoping Rover can find a replacement. With Rover being national and international, they really don’t focused on a detailed local level - if contacted they’ll use the same database to try to find someone, who may not be the next best match.

First of all, it falls completely on the shoulders of the pet owner to have to juggle the schedule. I should just be able to tell Rover what my needs are. THEY should be able to offer alternates or have sitters categorized as "BACKUP", so we owners don't have to manage the schedule.

Secondly canceling a date between sitters I have so far found to be a PITA. I wanted a backup sitter for one day, rover scheduled it as a "recurs weekly" event on their calendar. Now I have to basically tell the sitter to cancel it every week until I need her again.

I totally agree two sitters just makes good sense. Rover could do a better job at making it easier for pet owners to do this. Sitters categorized as BACKUP (BTW they would still have to meet and greet), and allow individual selectable days for specific days owners need coverage.
