In my circle it's common to tip people who serve you and work for you - haircutters, servers at restaurants, your cab driver, your dog walker etc. But then, there's people who don't tip anyone. You decide if the person who works for you is doing a good job and you appreciate their services or not.
I think it depends on the area and its culture. In Utah I was almost never tipped. I've just moved to Pennsylvania, and I'm almost always tipped. Most people here seem to feel it's polite to offer at least a basic 15% (and I often get a very appreciative 20% or more) since this is a personalized service. Maybe because this is a bigger city, but the culture in the East is also just very different.
Tips are common but not required or expected by the sitter.
I often get overlapping requests. If it's a busy / competitive market and you really want your sitter/ walker to prioritize you when they get multiple requests, then A. Be friendly and relatable B. Tip and leave great reviews. And you'll have a grateful, prioritized Rover relationship!
As an owner I always tipped my dog sitter. She took good care of him when I was out of town. I found a good one and wanted her to know she was appreciated. I wasn’t able to tip on Rover so I have my gal cash when picking up my pup.
