puppy peeing accidents - help?

I have a 4 month old puppy who gets overly excited and tinkles if you pet him before he uses the bathroom. Our biggest problem is he stinks and we have to keep showering him and cleaning his cage nonstop because he tinkles when we go to open the cage to take him outside. On top of that he will use the bathroom in his cage when locked up at night or pee in the house. We have tried to reward him for outside potty, and we try to take him out on a regular bases. Has anyone had this problem or know how to overcome it?

potty training was actually very easy to me and how i accomplished that was taking her out every 2-3 hours and you have to teach them the word no as soon as they pee you let them know you don't like that and when they use the bathroom outside you reward them.

I am not a big fan of keeping dogs in cages all day. I understand crate training but it sounds like your puppy spends majority of his time in his "cage". :(

Your puppy needs to get out and get exercise.

It sounds like he is having a lot of accidents in his cage, I don't blame the puppy. I think your puppy is spending too much time in his cage and not being taken out enough to so he doesn't have accidents.

Potty training takes a lot of patience and consistency.

I would recommend reaching out a local trainers in your area to really help both you and your puppy.

Best of Luck!

Look up excitement urination, I'm sure that's what it is. And probably let your puppy out of the cage and only putting him in there when no one is home, lined with puppy pads. Your post sounds like you leave the poor baby in there all day, even while your home. If that's the case, don't scold him or punish him if he does pee in the cage or the house. Especially if you're not taking him out every 2-3 hours. That will turn his excitement urination into submissive urination.
