Stripe thinks I am a business owner and want my business tax id, but I work for Rover?

After signing up with Stripe, I was confused about the business end of it. They think I am a business owner and are asking for the tax id for my business. Obviously Rover isn't my business. Now they say payments might be delayed because I haven't provided them the id for "my business". I looked into settings to see how I can change this, but found nothing.

Actually, you are a small business owner (a.k.a. Independent contractor, gig economy worker) and your SSN information will be provided for tax purposes.

You definitely are Not Rover’s employee. Rover is providing a platform where you can be contacted by & meet potential clients, set up bookings, and receive net payments for services, but you are completely charge of your business (the rates you set, how you fufill services booked, etc.)

IRS published this recently, which further explains some recent changes: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/taxpayers-…

Yes this is correct. On Rover it is your business, a small one. I 2nd this.

Well, not really. Maybe in the eyes of the IRS. But being monitored and ranked against others with no liability coverage does not constitute business ownership. Business Ownership refers to the ability to dictate functions and operations With control over an enterprise. It sounds cute though.

You are able to dictate how you run biz’ operations-set prices and policies. Rover allows posting of profiles, much like comparable sites of Thumbtack, AngiesList, Care etc., who decide the order& how to list contractors. Businesses who want insurance coverage pay for it.

your business tax id is your social security number

It is SSN due to you being a Independent contractor. In other words it is a small business that is yours.
