Not trying to sound cheap...but why do we have to pay to have a check sent to us if Rover is already taking out the cost of using them with each booking?

It seems to me that we are being charged twice for the same service....and the charge for sending us our OWN money seems ridiculous to me . I know we have a choice of using PayPal, but they do not give us our cash, just credit. Am I alone in thinking this?

I transfer my money earned with PayPal into my own personal account when it comes available, that way no other fees from rover come out without my permission.

Ironic ....but this question turned into something different than originated. BUT...I did join with PayPal and all was well until this month when "they" decided I was not a member any longer. Could not transfer monies Rover sent, could not log in nor restart. In speaking with two different company people who "fix" the situation, I am STILL without entrance. I plan to ask Rover to hold back my monies until this is fixed or another solution is found.

Rover is getting paid twice. The owner pays the service fee with their cash, and we pay it with our labor. Sitters should get what we charge for our services and Rover should be satisfied taking the insurance ect one time from the owners pay BECAUSE if anything happens sitters are not insured.

To pay for processing and to discourage us from doing it. Honestly, cutting checks for a business kind of sucks. Because we are independent contractors, it's a hassle to pay us directly, and they can't do direct deposit. They need to cut money out of our fee for administration fees to upkeep the site and pay salary for managers of the site.

Ultimately, it's to make it easier on the business, without upcharging the clients and discouraging them from using it. You can offset this by raising your prices so you actually get a fair wage.

Rover expects to make 25 to 27 million this year. They can afford to pay us our rates in full and just take fees from owners. Almost NOTHING is ever paid out on all the money they collect to insure pets.

Rover is an agency, an employment agency for dogsitters. Their commission pays for the site and the individuals who run the overall business. Charging you for cutting a check is a disincentive for that method. Rover would prefer you use an electronic payment method. You receive money via Paypal--not credit. That money can be transferred into any of your bank accounts (checking or savings), All you have to do is go through the Paypal process of verification, in which Paypal deposts a few cents into your bank account and you notify Paypal that it has or has not been successful. After that, you can transfer funds received very easily.

I've been using the paypal feature, but now paypal is charging to transfer money and it's cheaper to pay the 2$ then the fees through PayPal.

I'm not sure what you are doing, but there is no fee for transferring money you've received from Rover into your bank account. If you are sending those funds to another individual/entity and you've used your Paypal balance, then there is no fee. So I don't know what you are attempting to do, but for a simple deposit or transfer, there are no additional fees from Paypal.

While I understand the reason behind it, I still think they should do away with the $2 charge. I don't have a choice but to be paid by check. My Paypal account was hacked and is unusable. I have heard of other people's accounts being hacked as well. And I keep getting phishing emails from someone claiming to be from Paypal. I totally distrust Paypal.

Who doesn't get phishing emails? I get them with Paypal, my bank's name and other banks and institutions for which I've never had an account. You just don't click on anything linked from an email. I've been using Paypal for probably over 15 years. I've never had one negative experience or lost any money. I suggest you straighten things out with Paypal and get your account working again. Then don't ever respond to an email.

I agree with Karen. It is unfair to distrust Paypal because a third-party-spam/scammer unlawfully used the PP logo in a phishing attempt. It happens with many banks and government emails all the time.

At no time have I responded to a suspicious email. I am not saying Paypal is a bad company/product. I am only stating that I, personally, and possibly other people as well, have had problems, and am/are unable to use Paypal. My attempts to regain access to my account have failed.

As others have said, the fee is to discourage you from using the more labor intensive and expensive option. I have PayPal deposit directly into our Checking account.

Overhead costs & time spent to cut checks can be a headache. PayPal is pretty easy to setup & if you want to buy something online, just use the money already in your account from Rover to pay for your item with PayPal! PayPal does have a limit of depositing only $500 into your bank account a month, unless you verify more personal information to take more out each month. Transferring money from Rover to PayPal is unlimited!
