Paying for a meet and greet?

I booked a stay and asked the sitter to come by to pick up key, get shown where things are. She said I needed to book a "meet and greet" through ROVER. I couldn't find where to do that, so she added a visit (modification) of my booking whiched charged me for an extra visit. Is this the correct way to handle this? I've used this service before, and was not charged for picking up the key/getting shown around the house.

Charging a potential client for a meet & greet is definitely not something I recommend, and I think it's absurd. I use the "meet & greet" as test of sorts, and expect the client to do the same. Most businesses offer FREE consultations. Unless it's César Millán showing up, you shouldn't pay

Every sitter on Rover is independent and can pretty much do/charge however they want. Rover does not have an explicit fee for the Meet & Greet. It is interesting how yours figured out a workaround. I do understand that some sitters feel their time is worth something. As a sitter, who only boards dogs, I try not to think about abut the implied hourly rate; however, I will always insist on potential clients coming over with their pet(s) because it is so important and a crucial use of 30 minutes of my time.

If you do not want to pay for a Meet & Greet, then I suggest you book a different sitter who isn't going to charge you.

Good luck!

I am a new sitter and wasn't even aware it was POSSIBLE to charge for a meet n greet. I wouldn't do that, myself, because as you said, Karen, it's a valuable use of my time.

It is also a possible long term sitting job, so figure 30 minutes to visit the owner and the pets isn't too much to ask. These pets are so important to us, we have to trust the person taking care of them❤️
