Is it typical for sitter to ask to take a photo of my driver’s license?

I allowed a Rover sitter to take a photo of my driver’s license — I was taken aback by the request, but I felt weird about saying no because I didn’t want to cause friction.

One of the things I like about Rover is that you can accept jobs and get paid without giving clients your personal identification. Personality, I would not allow a client to take a picture of my license.

I can understand and relate to how you handled that scenario. However, given pervasive identity theft exists, I think people need to be more respectful of each other’s property rights and not ask to take photos of confidential identification, such as a drivers license. I’d guess the sitter didn’t think and doesn’t know better. If they were concerned you might not return for your pet, it would be far more more reasonable to write down your name and address.

Thank you for your response. Even as I handed her my license, I was asking myself what are you doing?! Yet, there I was, handing it right over. I thought maybe it was a standard practice, and I didn’t want to look stupid questioning it. I think I’ll contact her to suggest she stop this practice.

I'm new to dog sitting with Rover, but I wasn't aware that an owner can ask to see a sitter's driver's license or take a picture of it. Isn't that illegal for them to do that?

No, it isn't illegal.
