Do most sitters who stay over to watch pets typically leave the house key at the house when they finish their last visit?

I had asked the sitter to leave the key at the house when I got her text saying she was leaving but she had already gone and taken the key. She said she would bring it back, and I said it could be anytime yesterday. I didn't find the key last night so texted the sitter today and she said she forgot but would bring it this afternoon. I asked what time and I haven't heard back and haven't received the key yet.

My opinion is nothing is typical. Every agreement is personalized between the client’s/pets’ needs and the sitter agreement. Things usually work out smoothest if everything is discussed and agreed to before booking. It’s very possible that the sitter took with her and then forgot about it.

If this is a rover sitter, it may be a good idea to contact them. Ask if they can send a follow up communication.. Let them know she agreed to return the key yesterday, and today you still don’t have it back.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I did get the key back last night, and will know next time to discuss it beforehand.
