my dog is 15 years old and lately when we walk unleashed he normally walks 10 yards ahead though recently he is staying close to me in front and times will stop right in front of me while im walking and seems to cut me off too. What is going on with him?

You might want to have his eyes checked. My dog's walking habits changed when he developed cataracts. He started walking behind me all the time. Several times he walked into gates, fences or walls. Plus he couldn't judge the distance/height to jump onto furniture. It could be cataracts or glaucoma. Have the vet check his eyes.

Your good boy may be getting tired more quickly. If so, this may be his sign that he is ready to turn around and head home. My shepherd did this when she got into the geriatric years of her life. The walk was more work than it was fun for her so she spent the rest of her days on the couch with brief walks.

If he is tiring easier and his eyesight isn’t what it used to be he may not feel as confident or safe and may just want to be closer to you for reassurance that he is okay.
