new dog to move in?

My son has a 3 year old border collie that is sixty pounds and is moving in with his friend who has 3 pit bulls, all around sixty pounds. Do you think it will be safe for his dog the border collie, to be introduced in the the lives of the 3 pit bulls, that are 3,5 and 6 years old dogs that have lived together for the past 5 years. They have spent a little time together on a few short outings in a park. My sons dog acts a little afraid of them. So I am concerned about them living together full time. Thanks in advance

I believe that canines (not humans) are the best judge of compatibility with other canines. In this case, where the border collie has been around the other three dogs and acts afraid of them, I think your concern for safety is warranted.

I would be very careful. Not because they are pit bulls, but because they're a pack. From my own experience, a pack of dogs won't accept a new dog into their home. Obviously, if they are extremely well behaved, obedience trained, K9 good citizen certified, then that changes a situation. They all can do well with the new dog when the owners are around. But they should never be left alone. The new dog must be kept separated. Good luck.
