How to calm a newly adopted 1 year old dog?
He is a golden retriever
The first thing I always say is give them time to adjust to their new home. Some things you can do is to help is let them know the rules of your house right away so they know what is expected of them. Take them to a pet store and let them pick out a toy or 2 so they have something that know it theirs and you can make sure they like what your buying them. Include them in you day to day as much as possible.
Congrats! Goldens are hyper. Make sure you're tiring out BOTH brain with training and body with exercise. Usually takes adopted dogs 2-4 months to settle into your routine. But realistically you have a very active breed, she's always going to want to be on the go. And if they don't get proper exercise that can definitely manifest in behavioral issues. If she's stressed, just give her time and comfy bed to sleep in. Shelters are noisy, stressful places. It takes time for dogs to relax from that exposure. Good luck!
