How do I know if I am being scammed?

This is the second time I've had someone reach out to me wanting to communicate outside of Rover asking that I purchase dog supplies. They asked that I get food, toys, medications, and treats saying they will pay me for and/or give me a check or some form of payment. I immediately sense they are trying to scam me. Do the owners go through a background check as well? I wonder at times how safe I am even going to a Meet and Greet.

The client will have an elaborate story, too many details are a red flag. They will ask for additional services not offered on rover that involve funneling funds through you to purchase dog food or supplies. Immediately report these requests, archive and move on.

To answer your question, NO. Owners DO NOT go through any type of background check. Anybody can sign up for Rover.

If you receive those strange kind of solicitations, report it to Rover Customer Support at [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team].
