How should I have handled a booking request from a deceptive client?
I received my first booking request from an owner to take care of her two cats for one visit on October 15 and one visit on October 22. I arranged a meet and greet with her for the next day. I was leery in accepting because she was outside my 20 mile radius. And even though her home was only 28 miles from mine, it is a 45 minute drive because she is so far out in the country dirt lanes.
When I get there, the first thing she says is someone just stopped by to visit her and they told her they would be glad to help her out. But she let me come anyway because "it is always good to have options". She then informed me that in addition to caring for the two cats she had a Bearded Dragon that would need care and proceeded to rattle off instructions on how to care for it. She also informed me she actually needed visits October 15 through October 28 not just the two days she had requested. She said she was bad with technology and didn't know how to enter the request correctly. So I changed the dates and adjusted the amount to charge for the second cat and accepted the booking. I told her she would need to accept in the next 72 hours if she decided to use me.
I knew when I left that she had no intention of booking with me. Now that the booking has expired because she did not accept my booking rate is 50. Is this going to keep legitimate potential clients from seeing me? Is there a way to change it since this person was totally misleading? Would it have been better to decline the booking when I realized she was not a serious client?
