how do I refer another sitter?

A client has ask me to sit some animals, but they live farther than I like to drive. How do I go about referring them to another sitter?

I give the client the name, town and zip code of the sitter I am referring them to. With that information they are usually able to find the person I intend.

On rare occasions when it is absolutely necessary to get in contact with another sitter, I have actually sent a 'dummy' sitting request - dates and everything - as an introduction and then we have exchanged personal emails. They can then archive the request as one that didn't work out and we can continue to communicate.

This is NOT ideal, but until Rover develops a decent system it is an ok go-around.

The only way you can refer another sitter is if you know another sitter and you know their work ethic. You don't want to refer them to someone you don't know. For example, when my regular customers request me and I am booked or I'm on vacation, I have a person I refer them to that I trust whole heartedly. That person stays with my own dogs so I trust her completely. It would be nice if Rover extends a way for us to connect with other sitters in our area. There is a sitter on the community board that I would love to connect with but there is no way to message her. If you do not know of anyone to refer them to, you can always give them Rover's 1-800 number and they can connect them with someone close to their area. Hope that helps.
