Rover.com - Can we submit & read tips for/from other owners who have watched the same dog?

Hi there! I'm wondering if there's a way to submit tips for other Rover sitters to read before agreeing to watch a given dog. I personally would find this very helpful, as I've had several "housetrained" dogs that seem to LOVE peeing on my rug. One of them even refused to poop outside, no matter HOW many walks I took her on - and while the owner insisted this had never happened at home, the behavior was too consistent for it to have been a true surprise. As a result of these experiences, I may have to stop sitting altogether, as I never know if a dog is TRULY house-trained, despite what the owner may say.

This would be a great service to sitters. My first booking for house-sitting was difficult due to aggressive behavior of the dogs and the house was so nasty I couldn't sleep.

I am going to stop accepting dogs that I have not sat before because of this very reason. I have had to clean too many rugs and some just will never be the same...Rover doesn't care!

I love love this idea!!!

I find crate trained dogs are better than others. I noticed the same problem. No I take only crate trained dogs. Not that they have to be in crate but they behave better too.

That would be such a nice feature. If we added notes to a dogs profile maybe there could be an option to "share with other sitters". Course that would mean the last name would have to be added to the dog's....otherwise which Bailey is which??

Also I've found a great urine cleaner and it's right in your closet --pure white vinegar -- right from the bottle. Found this on a dog site: blot spot with thick paper towel -- standing on it and repeat as needed to get as much out as possible. Slowly pour the vinegar into the spot and pour enough for it to go deep into the carpet. Wait 10 minutes. Again blot with paper towels and a newspaper on top (gives more cushion to your weight). Repeat until paper towel barely damp (I turn the newspaper and open and refold, etc.) It then suggests when almost dry to the touch to put a light dusting of baking soda on the spot and let it completely dry then vacuum. WORKS WONDERFULLY -- also for vomit or diarrhea. And vinegar will not fade carpet or fabric (have used on chair a male marked). I had a little trouble with the baking soda in my sun porch -- the carpet is a really tight weave, so the soda left a mark, but I took a dry brush to it and it came out. In that room, I skip that step and haven't noticed any difference. Some dogs have been sniffing around and I thought "oh no, isn't working", but they just walk away....try it. cheap enough if you don't like the results. But don't be stingy on how much use use. I have an area rug in the dining room and have put newspaper and paper towels on top and under for blotting (pt against the rug) and then fresh of each underneath until totally dry so my floors don't get wet. Definitely the down side to our business....

Hey I also would find the feature for sitters useful. I'd love to know what I was going into and to let others know what my experience was.

I think that would be great. Very helpful for the dog too. Even if we could contact the other sitter. I would love to help. I made a Google doc for my own clients so I remember things like callie likes balls but may chase bunnies. Captain needs to eat in his crate or sister will eat his too.

I think we have a quorum! Owners book you, and THEN say: oh my dog has separation anxiety & cant be left AT ALL. Or, my dog has separation anxiety & will get diarrhea (current situation). I would up my price if I knew these things first! Or, decline job. Feeling frustrated.

How do I find one around my place

I had a dog that pooped in my house. Ok maybe hes nervous. The a few hours later he pooped on my sofa !! Nope nope nope. I called the owner, said have your emergency contact person come get your dog. The money was refunded & I never watched him again.

Hi! I totally understand where you are coming from and know this frustration. They may smell the other dog's urine and feel the need to mark it as well. I have found that Nature's Miracle spray works wonders. I get it from our local pet store, Pet Supply Plus but I have also seen it at Walmart too. Best wishes.

I agree 100% with this suggestion. I have wondered why we can't share info ever since I started sitting. It should be like Air bnb, where the homeowners can see what others have said about prospective clients.

I asked this similar question and don't know where it went... Let me ask all of you this, what about dogs that have a "rap sheet" that came to my home that does NOT include pee? How about stealing food off the table, has fleas, afraid of thunder, chewing furniture, won't come when called, has virtually no training at all, cries all night, escape artist, ad nauesum?

We have our own notes internally, Rover requests the same, why keep notes on a visit whether the pet owner is a flake or the pet has bad and or destructive behaviors that an owner doesn't share because the "forgot to mention" or fear not getting a booking?

There are so many questions we ask at a meet and greet and yet they may not be enough. Finding out things the hard way when someone (Peer /Rover) could give a potential pet care worker the head's up instead of everyone learning the hard way? It's like Human Resources Department providing records for the new manager isn't it?

Not that I've run into any surprises but just I'm just asking for a "friend" LOL!

I would love the option of reading a dog's previous reviews. I found out that owners lie about their dogs behavior all the time including anxiety and aggression. It is definitely a feature that Rover should create.

Dog reviews are only available for the Rover support team and not the sitter community. Many dogs who are house trained in their homes may pee when in your home - this is just an issue you will have to deal with if you decide to continue to be a sitter. Sorry for your bad experience but this is truly commonplace

When I get the email link to review the animal/owner I sat for, it says so I can refer back to it later. I need to see what I wrote about a current repeat client but can't find a link anywhere. Where did my review go and how can I access it?

So it wasn't made clear that if I left a review of the owner, they would not see it. How does the support team use this info, and are our reviews passed on to owners?

Same question "internal review of a dog". My sitter friend for several dogs has never had request. I have had several requests for the same dog (#1) and none for dog #2. Dog #2 no prob: mellow old dog, needs space. #1 curious, energetic, disruptive if no attn. Owner 50% unreliable. Coincidence?
