What happens if a sitter gets sick while house sitting and can not continue?

A potential client asked me what would happen if I get sick while I was watching their dogs in their home. These clients are going on a cruise and worry that their dogs would be at risk. Thanks for any info.

You would have to call Rover support [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team] and see if they can rehome the dogs

Just to clarify, by "at risk" you mean at risk of not being cared for, right? I hope they're not worried about their dogs catching a cold from you.

It sounds like they are nervous about leaving and like to plan for every possible scenario (or they've had a sitter bail on them in the past). I would reassure them that I have a plan in case I get so violently ill that I could not care for their dogs. In my case, that plan is: My husband would either drive me to their home to care for your pups, or he would take over my duties if they'd be comfortable with that idea. (If you don't have a spouse, you can recruit a friend whom you trust who could fill in if there's a dire emergency or another Rover sitter you've used or know. Or you can skip to the next part...) 'I would let you know immediately if I wasn't able to care for your sweethearts, and Rover support also serves as a backup in case of emergencies, so I would contact them and they would find a sitter to replace me.'

I would emphasize that I would have to be heading to the hospital to just abandon their pets and renege on my sitter obligations.

I hope that's helpful!

If your sitter gets sick and can not continue, then she will call Rover and ask them to find a new sitter.
