What are some housecleaning products that are effective AND safe to use around dogs?

I am looking for some tips on housecleaning and recommendations for cleaning products to use that are safe for dogs ( mainly carpet cleaners to use in a shampooer). Many cleaning chemicals such as lysol all purpose cleaner i feel are just too strong to be using around my pups. I have three dogs and cannot seem to get the dog smell out of my house. I keep a very clean house, vacuum often, shampoo the carpets, etc. I even make sure my dogs are clean ( bathing them about twice a year)... it's not good for dogs to bathe them too much. No matter what i do this dog smell lingers. It's mainly from my golden retriever ( gotta love them but they are just stinky dogs!).

So, any tips out there for getting that "dog smell" out of your house?

Natures Miracle is safe around dogs and can be used as a general overall cleaner, even in your carpet shampooer. You may want to consider more frequent baths if your pups are stinky, once a month is a good target to consider, it will help remove dander and excess fur.

You are smart. Anything with a strong scent is not good for dogs because of their sensitive noses. I use vinegar and baking soda for everything. Vinegar is a great germ killer. As good as bleach.

I have never done, but I understand you can use vinegar in a shampooer. Vinegar, baking soda and hot water are my go cleaners for everything. Occasionally I have to use ammonia, but it dissipates quickly. I always open the windows when using ammonia.

Check out micro21 specialty products. They have an all natural odor & stain remover spray that works AMAZINGLY! It does not have a scent and really works great on pet smells and all types of organic stains created by pets. I even used it on my very expensive suede chair my cat sprayed on. It took the smell and the stain out, leaving no residue. It it a life saver!

For tile floor and wood floors, vinegar mixed with water is safe. I always use this or ask house cleaners to use this.

I’ve found that Puracy brand carpet shampoo works well to remove odors when cleaning carpets, and it is made of natural ingredients and enzymes, with no sulfates or weird perfume-y scents.

I use Dr. Bronner’s peppermint castile soap to wash my dog, which leaves a faint minty scent and is gentle since it is made of oils instead of chemicals and sulfates. I’ve found that because this is so gentle, I can wash my dog more often without agitating her sensitive skin.

Another neat thing about Bronner’s is, it can be used to clean virtually anything in your home! (I’m not being paid by them, I promise...I am just a huge fan after coming across their product a few years back!) Search for uses online or on Pinterest...you’ll be amazed!

I agree with Cynthia. I have used vinegar and baking soda for nearly everything for years. Baking soda is also a great scrubber cause it is a mild abrasive but doesn't scratch or damage the surfaces. Vinegar is also a great disinfectant and the smell goes away fairly quickly. I'll also mix some blue Dawn dish soap with the vinegar if I want a sudsy clean (this is also a great ant killer/deterrent when they’re after the dog food). I do keep a bottle of all natural concentrated ECOVER All-purpose Cleaner around, too. You can literally use it on just about anything. And since you dilute a little bit with your water, it lasts a REALLY LONG TIME, haha. I can keep one for a couple years or so, but again, it's not my go-to everyday cleaner either. You can probably find it at your local natural food store like Whole Foods. Hope these help and good luck.
