Client Stays In The House While I Sit?

I'm sitting with a dog I previously stayed with for a week and everything was going great!

It was established that I wouldn't be staying the night and the client would come home around 7 pm...

However what actually happened is that he came home around 3 pm, said he was going to take a nap, and has been napping since (it is now 8 PM and I kind of need to go home but have some qualms about trying to wake up a stranger).

I guess my biggest question is if anyone else has experienced this? It feels very strange for me to watch a dog while the owner is already in the house, especially when that dog is also napping. I'm not complaining about this kind of paycheck, certainly, but... I do indeed find this odd and I just want to know if I'm right in feeling this or if that's just my limited experience talking.

I don't blame you, I would be highly uncomfortable. What if he naps in the nude or something? Or he doesn't wake up when you knock on the door? Very weird! But unfortunately, all you can do is try... Good luck, hope it goes well!

When the client got home early did they mention anything about when you could leave? I would have assumed that you should still leave at your planned time if not earlier! If you're uncomfortable with leaving unannounced, you can message them through Rover ("Hi owner, I stayed until the time we previously discussed, and since you're now home I think doggo will be fine. Please let me know if you have any questions when you wake up!") or leave a note to the same effect. Just let the dog out for one last potty, feed any planned meals, and head home!

Personally as an owner, I would be weirded out if I woke up from a nap to find my dog sitter still hanging around. I'd assume that the owner wanted you to gather your stuff and leave early, or no later than your previously discussed departure. Unless there's some reason that the dog has to be constantly supervised, I don't see any reason you would need to stick around any longer.

He didn't really which is part of what's odd! The only big problem keeping me from leaving and just sending a message is that the dog has to be crated when he's unsupervised (he loves to chew) and the crate is in the sleeping owner's room lol Thank you for your input !!

I agree, i would feel weird. Not that he's home, but that he's in his bedroom. I would definately knock and tell him your leaving, tree dogs been out and just needs to be crated.

Nothing weird. He hired you but was tired so went to bed. Just knock on his door and tell him you're about to leave, and wanted to let him know you're leaving. He is no stranger, he's the person you work for. Why would you be afraid to tell him it's way past 7PM and it's time for you to go home? Just tell him. And he can bring his pup in his room and put him in a crate.
