Do you give a discount and how much for boarding the second dog from the same family?

I just started with Rover. I looked at rates of other sitters in the area and they were $40 per day with a second dog from the same family being $35. I quoted those prices, but the customers said they only wanted to pay $60 total. I turned them down and they seemed a bit miffed. Is $40 + $35 fair for two dogs? Do other sitters negotiate off of their published prices? I ended up booking two other dogs for full price so it worked out for me. What are other sitters doing for multiple dog discounts?

Those rates look fair. Some times you & other sitters may choose to discount, but you are not obligated to negotiate.

It's worth noting that not all sitters have the same level of experience or provide the same amount of care when boarding, especially due to commitments outside of boarding. For example, your profile shows you're home full time. Not all sitters are. You only board two dogs nightly. Some board more. You don't have a dog. That also sets you apart for clients who wish their dogs to be only ones. You and your wife both provide care. Both of you have obedience training, racing, and show dog event/club experience. And your home has a large fenced yard

Pricing is a personal decision, often made on a case by case basis. Ultimately, you'll determine what if it's worth ever offering a discount or promotion (and if so, it may only be for repeat clients, as opposed to a first timer who you may choose to never book again) because boarding a dog encompasses a lot more (time, energy, expense...) than just walking or house sitting.

I see you are a new Rover sitter so I wish you the best of luck going forward. Should you discount, maybe! Do you want clients and to earn some cash? Do you need some reviews to push you up the search results? Many sitters will tell you to stand firm on your rates but I don't always agree, you need to decide what's best for you and your startup business

Your rates are the going rate for your area so that is fair trade. We (two of us on the account) don't negotiate the rates on our profile or publish discounts; but, if a long-standing client asks for a multiple dog discount we'll give it. Our boarding rate is also $40 and the additional dog discount $35.

I agree with what everyone else said and just wanted to add reason for discounting on multiple dogs for me is, it is one pick up and one drop off (same waiting period if they are running late or something it is not 2 different clients running late) sometimes for me that can be the most not fun part of the job so I do discount for this and not because it is two dogs but because it is one client to deal with. Having said that the work is same as if it was two different dogs one may not get a long with a certain type of dog or vice versa so to me I discount $10/day but that is me and the importance I place on time saved for having one client.
