How often dogs needs their vaccinations to be updated? [closed]

A client didn't like when I told him that I couldn't take care his dog because the dog had their shots 12 years ago and that's the dog age.

I didn't say no right away, just after I sent him the vaccinations required for dog boarding and I called a vet and they told me they need to be updated every year, I texted this to the client and he told me that no one he knows put their vaccinations every year to their dogs and he doesn't know where I'm getting that information from and he told me he has used rover dozens of times and nobody has ever asked him for vaccinations records.

Am I wrong to be asking this?

Am I being too picky to ask for proof of dogs vaccinations records for dog boarding?

How often dogs needs their vaccinations to be updated?

Thanks.

It is very important for your clients dogs to be current on their vaccinations especially if they are coming to your home for boarding, maybe not as important if you are going to their home. Some Rover sitters don't care, but many do, so you have to decide how important it is to you.

If the client told you they have used several Rover sitters in the past that sends up a red-flag to me!! Why aren't they going back to prior sitters? Is there an issue with their dog? Or is the client a pain in the butt? Best of luck

Both Walt and Karen are correct! You are doing the correct procedure by requiring to see vaccination records. I Always require to see vaccination records! I do have 1 dog that comes occasionally and isn't updated because he is 17 years old, health gradually declining due to age and the veterinarian recommended Not to vaccinate. During the meet & greet, owner agreed that there would be a possibility the dog could be exposed to kennel cough or any thing else and owner accepts responsibility and even posted that in her dog's notes. I also contacted rover support to put info in their notes as a "precaution". Like Walt said "...If the client told you they have used several Rover sitters in the past that sends up a red-flag to me!!..."

I see you have already read Nicole's detailed answer about vaccinations on the other board but it didn't answer your question about frequency.

The rabies vaccination--mandatory by state law everywhere--is given every one or three years. The dog will wear a tag that has its expiration date on it.

All the others vary in length, even the ones considered the "core group." However, if you ask for a copy/printout of the vet's records it typically says when the dog is due for his/her next.

Take a look at this:

There is a trend toward less vaccination in dogs as well. However, vets will perform titer testing to check and document the level of antibodies in a dog's system to ensure it is protected.
