Why are owners allowed to request multiple sitters at once?

Almost everyone I get requests from has found other sitters minutes before I even answer. It is frustrating to get a request then message them back not even 5 minutes after and they tell me they found someone else. I feel that there should be a limit on how many sitters owners can send requests to in my opinion. Does this happen to anyone else?

This is happened to me a few times also and I am not very happy when customers do this I mean it's a waste of my time and gas. Then they tell me when I get there that they have scheduled a couple more other Rover sitters and they are coming by and so yeah I'm not real happy when I get these calls

I hate that is allowed because sometimes I'm on a walk or caring for another pet , usually do not take calls or answers text while with a pet client (i find that's ignoring and rude) , really needs to be changed.

No that’s not fair at all, every time I contact everyone says no or doesn’t answer for days. Now I can’t message another sitter because there is a limit 😡

When we request a booking, the sitter has 2 days to respond. So are we supposed to wait 2 days, contact another and wait 2 days then contact another and wait 2 days, etc.. It takes 6 requests to finally get a response. If you do the math, this could take 12 days. You are def the exception.

Rover suggests u contact 3 sitters. 1st time away & using Rover. Reliable care during major surgery, 5 days in hospital is critical. Was working with only 1 provider to arrange care. She’s canceled 2 meet&greets, w/ 3rd now so close to checkin date - i see that backup is common sense. Life happens!

I am not asking for multiple sitters. The system does it automatically. It’s frustrating . I only want sitters I actively choose, not those the app selects for me.

After multiple "Sorry not available" responses (even though their calendars showed otherwise) I was done contacting one sitter at a time. I would blame sitters that don't keep their calendars up-to-date for your frustration.

Comments

OMG! Keep your calendar up to dates. I have already maxed out my messages and can't even find another sitter because 8 out of the 10 people I messaged aren't available when their calendar shows otherwise. Then I found one that can do only half the week. The other one had a a crazy fee for an ex. dog

I put in 5 requests. 2 never responded at all, 2 were booked and one said she'd get back to me and never did. Second batch, 2 non responses, 1 meet and greet scheduled and never showed up or contacted me again and 1 would have left my dogs 12 hours a day. How do I file complaints?

Guys check my website I’m insured Kat’s-Puppy-Paradise.business.site Big fenced backyard and love animals

It's interesting to hear the side of the owners. I'm a sitter. I had no idea it was like that. I answer quick and am normally saying yes though. But wow I had no idea

I am sick of sitters not updating their calendars! Says they are available but when I request a booking, they dissapear off the list. They don't even have the courtesy to say sorry they forgot to update their calendar. Ghosted! It usually takes 6 requests to finally get someone to accept.

In looking for sitters myself, I went through this process. The system automatically & repeatedly encourages the pet parent to contact more sitters in hopes of finding the right match. I understand how you feel when you responded quickly. It may be difficult to imagine, but there are many sitters who don't respond timely (and yet they appear high in search results), so Rover doesn't want owners disappointed and ignored - waiting days for responses.

Some pay-for-lead based sites limit the number of respondents to less than 5, which seems reasonable (especially since sitters have to pay for leads, whether or not they book the actual job, they're inclined to respond quickly each time and not ignore any requests).

When someone books with another sitter less than thirty minutes later, I wouldn't let it bother me. That means there was no meet&greet and that sitter may end up with a whole lot of negative surprises.

They definitely should have an option to message as many sitters as possible and then choose the one they want from all those ones who responded and were interested. Yes, it IS extremely frustrating when you feel they just waste your time and energy. I used to feel this way too. But I didn't know they sent the same message to bunch of sitters. So I respond right away and if I don't here from them, I just archive the request. They still can message you and you can unarchive if you need to. But if you respond immediately they will usually pick you. You got about 30 seconds to do so. I've done it and they always responded right away and I got the job. People appreciate when you respond immediately within seconds, it "shows" you are very interested in working for them.

There is definitely a limit- my account was just "locked" and I'm not allowed to message sitters for 2 more days because I have sent too many (10 in the past 2 days). I have yet to hear back from 8 of them, and the other 2 I did hear from didn't have availability even though their calendars showed otherwise. So here I sit, in desperate need of a sitter in rather short notice, because the sitter I had set up for the past 4 months completely ghosted on me, and I am not getting responses back and now my account has been locked for sending too many messages. Oh not to mention the two meet and greets from 3 days ago that never showed up. Just commenting as to the 'other side'. When only 0 percent work out, and only 20% respond with unavailability, I'd really like to be able to message more.

Support may be able to unlock your account if you explain the situation or message sitters directly (at no additional charge). They can be reached @ [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Thank you! I did talk with support and they apologized and said it was irreversible. I ended up finding a family friend to pet sit for us. Pretty frustrating!

I understand your pain Jessica. I'm about done with Rover. Every single person I messaged wasn't actually available, or they had work the next day and forgot to change their calendar, or they agreed then canceled.. Now I can't message anyone else and am waiting back. Rover itself as an app is bad

Hi Maxwell, Would you please, either by phone or the online help form, please consider letting rover know that? Sitters who don't keep accurate calendar availability and cancel after agreeing should/would be penalized (rover needs to know who). There are many available sitters to gladly help you.

I’m having the same issues, and now in desperate need of a last minute sitter on a holiday weekend of all times. I’ve been on Rover for not even 24 hours and am already locked, which means now I lose out on the opportunity to find someone that is available. Frustrated enough to delete the app.

OMG, if you're going to do this as a business, please learn customer service skills! We are trying to find a sitter or walker for our 4 legged family members so yes, we're going to look at more than one person. But with so many of you not responding, saying you'll get back to us and not doing so or not showing up to meet and greets, how can you blame us? I personally will be contacting Rover to see if I can comment on some of you so others can be prepared for your irresponsibility. If not, maybe I'll create a Facebook page and you can worry about whether your name appears there. Professionalism demands that you respond timely, respond back when you say you will and show up for appointments!

You're taking other people's behavior towards you out on another person who you're making complete assumptions about. Just in response to that. You're on a hunt to repremand us realize that it's just like out in the world. People are people. Good and bad ones. We just all happen to have the same job

I'm okay with this as long as the owner of the dog(s) gets back to me asap letting me know they found someone else so I'm not sitting and waiting to hear back when I could be doing other errands or doing a dog walk or something.
