What do I do if my dog is bitten by a snake?

If possible, try to identify the snake (what colors, pattern, does it have a rattle on end of tail or not) so you can describe it the vetinarian. Look for the fang marks (there may be more than one bite). If the bite is on a leg, wrap a piece of cloth just above the fang mark, on the body side of the fang mark (snug, but not too tight). Do not try to suck venom out. Try to keep the dog calm, quiet and take the dog IMMEDIATELY to the vet, who will determine how much venom was injected into the dog (by judging the reactions and by blood tests) and can treat with anti-venom, if necessary.
