Rover sitters are not employees, we are Independent Contractors. Rover has never sent me a 1099 because I deposit my pay to PayPal, then transfer the funds to my bank. I believe Rover only sends a 1099 if you receive payments via check, which Rover charges a fee for and takes more time to get paid. I use the Schedule C for tax purposes and set aside 30% of my pay for taxes, which is more than enough - 20% will most likely cover the amount of taxes that need to be paid, but you should consult with a tax professional or accountant for the best advice.
Rover hosts are Independent Contractors -aka IC's, not employees. We set our own rates, chose the services we offer and pay All taxes. Rover sends a 1099. Employees get a W2 where employers pay part of our taxes, may offer insurance and if applicable, 401K deductions. Rover hosts (US) pay All Taxes to the State, Fed., SS/Med, etc. We do Not get insurance or 401K. Check your State and Fed. for "IC" deductions (Small Business). Also make sure you are tracking All your deductions (vehicle mileage for walkers/drop ins), Home deductions for boarding & doggy daycare And every cent you spend on supplies (Treats, poop bags, camera, gifts for customers, etc.) Many of us use an accountant until we get a good handle on how it works.
