Are you allowed to give out your coupon code to customers that contact you directly through Rover?

Hello,

I am a new Rover sitter. I remember reading somewhere that you could give out your coupon code - but not to people who were already a customer. I am a little confused by this. If someone reaches out to me on a message through http://Rover.com, are you allowed to share your coupon code at that point or are they already considered a customer by the time they reach out to you? If anyone could clarify, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you, -Christine Crossman

If you cannot send your coupon code through a message, how is a first time customer suppose to be able to know it?

The coupon code is designed to give a discount to owners that you invite to Rover, instead of owners that already found you through Rover. I know it can be confusing, because even if they find you through the site, they're a brand new customer, right?

Essentially, giving a coupon code to someone who already found Rover through TV/radio/other ads makes it twice the cost for Rover to bring you that client. The more they have to spend to bring in a single client, the fewer clients they can get for you. The idea behind the coupon code is you're the one doing the advertising, so that's why Rover covers the discount.

If you want to do something special to close the sale for somebody who found you through Rover, I find tossing in a free bath, or offering an extra walk for traveling stays, or even a $5-10 discount out of my own pocket can help me get the stay booked.

I did this once without knowing I wasn't allowed. Will I get into trouble?

I did as well on accident, then I read the terms and conditions. As the comments say below, they will not be able to see the promo code if you sent it by accident or otherwise.

Christine, I recently tried to do that, through message, and it would not let me. The couple I am making plans with is a first time customer of mine, which I thought was the point of the coupon code. So I am with you with the confusion, but with my recent experience, you can not message it to them.

I tried to message it to my client too and it would not let me. I am certain they are new to the Rover platform too, so I am still just a little confused.

I know what you mean Christine. When I try to offer the code to clients int their message, it shows up as ".......". So, I always have to wait until the meet and greet and give it to them in person. I don't know why it's set up like that. It's almost like Rover doesn't want us to use the code.

If a prospective client has used the rover.com service before, they cannot use your coupon code for a discount. That code is only for clients who are new to the whole rover platform. That's disappointing, but it's the way that rover.com has it set up at this point. It would really be nice if we could offer it to clients who are new to us, as an enticement to use our services again.

I understand that is it for first time customers. What if someone who has never used Rover before reaches out to me for a stay request? How am I suppose to give them my coupon code? It does not allow me to send it via message.

The coupon code is for new clients that have not used a Rover sitter before, as stated above. However you can choose to give them a discount if you want when setting the reservation. Just adjust the pricing before you set the request.

Your discount code will only work for new customers to the http://rover.com site, not for anyone who has used the service before. Regardless of if it is the first time they book you for your services.

No, Rover won't let you send your coupon code through a message. This is frustrating to me because Rover isn't popular yet in my area so customers usually find me through an advertisement then I'll send them to the Rover site. For some reason they seem to get confused about how to use the code or forget what it is but when I try to send a message reminding them, Rover won't let me. I understand that the coupon code is a way that Rover tries to attract new customers to their site, but I'm not sure why they don't allow sitters to message a first-time customer with their code.

My experience has been that if I gave someone my coupon code, but they're already booked a stay with another Rover sitter, they will find that the coupon code is not valid (as the discount was intended for first time customers to entice them to try out Rover services). Although you could provide it, if they previously used Rover services they may find they can't use it.
