Where do you take the dog for a walks?

Hello! I'm going to be starting on Rover as a new dog walker here, and I just wanted to know how you other walkers, walk your dog clients!

Do you take them in your car to a park or do you drive there and just walk around their own neighborhood? Or change between the two?

I always wondered this, but I wanted to ask before I get started!

I am not a walker but a dog sitter. But I walk client dogs around the neighborhood with my own dog. Given that a walk is only 30 minutes, it doesn't seem realistic for you to transport dogs elsewhere and get them back again. Moreover, many dog walkers will have a certain route and walk several clients simultaneously, which means it would be very impractical to drive the dogs to any other place. Keep it local because you only have a limited timeframe.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! I wasn't thinking about multiple clients, starting off small at first, but overall that makes more sense!

Hi Katie:

I am a walker and mostly walk the dogs in their neighborhoods. I do have a trail walking client that I pick up and drive to the trails. This client prefers later in the day, so I have time to do that (usually the last walk of the day). I have other clients that live along a trail that runs through the city, so it's any easy walk right out the door for them. It would be nice if Rover had listings for different types of walks/services because I would love to take dogs to the nearby dog beach, and that would definitely have a travel fee involved in the pricing. I would also like to take more client dogs to the trails that I need to drive to and have a listed fee for that.

Thank you! Thats a really neat idea! Follow up question, do you drive to the clients house? do you park on the road?

Like Mary I am also a dog walker. During the 1st few walks I develop a route for the walk that covers 1 mile door to door in their neighborhoods.

I've usually walked dogs in their neighborhood. With most of the dog walking jobs I do I've received instructions from the client as to where their dogs like to walk. I have never taken a dog in my car to another location to walk them.

I'm also a sitter but walk my boarders around the neighborhood. Before you transport any dogs, make sure to get the owners approval. You have another liability transporting in case of an accident.
