Advice on House Sitting Protocol?

I just got my first request for house sitting (I've done mostly drop-in and walking thus far) for two dogs and a cat! The owner is wondering about if it is the rate per dog per night, and that has always been my understanding. For drop-in visits/walking I don't normally charge for an extra dog since it is more or less the same amount of work.

From experiences of other sitters, is it reasonable to charge $29/dog/night (that was the recommended rate when I signed up as a sitter) and then the cat as only like $12/cat/night?

Just seems a little low for it to be $29/night for 3 animals...

Thoughts and advice welcome!

I charge per pet for house sitting, and it's $10 more than my boarding rate. I do discount additional dogs but they are definitely not free. I also charge $5 for cat care as well. Make sure all animals are listed in the owner profile, first to include them in the pricing algorithm and second for liability/insurance reasons. In your example, my charge per night would be $65 a night total.

Keep in mind there's an inconvenience factor in house sitting. You have to leave your home and normal routine and may be away from your family and pets, if you have either.

Yes, the house sitting rate is usually per pet. Without searching out rates in your area, $29 seems much too low for 3 animals. Although each sitter can make their own agreement with the pet parent, generally it's for/up to 24 hours of care, where you're staying in their house. Some sitters offer a reduced rate for second & third, etc. (which may range from $5 discount each or more) for additional pets.

Thank you!! I realized it was a bit low and will definitely be increasing the rate for my next job - especially for this area!
