Hello, I am new to Rover and am very excited to be here. I love animals, and though this would be an amazing side job. How do I get clients? It seems a little hard to find people here, or look at other profiles. I guess I'm just not sure what I am doing. Can someone help me out? Or do I just patiently wait?
I agree with everything Lindsey said. Also, just be patient, it takes time for owners to find new listings. Hopefully bookings will increase in the summer as more families travel while the kids are out of school. Word of mouth is a great tool. Get the Rover business cards and hand them out to friends and family. Include pictures of your home and yard so that owners can see where their baby will be staying.
I looked at your profile, and one thing I noticed is that you do have children and two other pets. I have learned that some dogs don't get along well with other dogs or children, so some owners are looking for homes without them. Nothing against you, it's just that I've gotten bookings from owners who have told me they appreciate the fact that I don't have other animals. Each owner is different, though.
Good advise Cari C.. Get the business cards and hand them out at local dog parks, your vets office or all vets in your area if you can. The cards will highlight a "first time customer discount". You can also set up your own URL, mine is rover.com/sit/mypookiebear89, which takes potential clients straight to your profile. I hope this helps. Susan D.

Hi Lizz! You can use the dashboard page to advertise your services through other sites such as Craigslist or Facebook. When you do receive your first request, be sure to respond promptly and book as often as you are comfortable in order to improve your search rank. I would also check to see that you are charging standard rates for your area - if your price is too high, you may be deflecting potential clients. Lastly, fill out as much of your profile as possible! Pets are family and owners want to be sure they find the best possible sitter for their furry friends! Their first impression of you is through what they read on your page so make sure it truly expresses your love for animals and why you would be the best pick for them!
I started out low balling it until I could get some meet and greets in and once you host a pooch, get a great review, you will benefit by not letting money be the basis for your services. Once you've gotten comfortable and have had some interaction and a review or two......up your prices being mindful you don't go too high and lose jobs to your local competition. Good luck! Susan D.

Follow everyone's advice. The clients will come. It took about a month for me to get my first request. Now, I get them weekly. I actually have to turn people down. Keep checking in. Stay active. Fill everything out. Post pictures. Definitely testimonials. It helps. Business cards, flyers, dog parks, Facebook, Craigslist....it will come.
Same for me Cassandra. It took a few weeks for my first request. I've had to turn down one as well. A cute little Rat Terrier who, due to circumstances, was number 1 on a ranch for all of his six years, causing him to be unsocial and scared with anyone but the owners, who were super nice and loving. Ok, I get the part of business cards. As far as showing them ur yard and home, interior, exterior. I hand out the business cards along with printed out copies of my home clipped on to them? How does this work.Lol :-) Warmly,
No, Carlos, I think what people mean is: 1. Have photos of all these things on your Rover profile. 2. Hand out business cards (Then, when they use the info from your card to go to your Rover profile, they will see the pictures) Good luck!!
I agree with everyone as well. Also what helped me as a new sitter was having pictures of me with my friends and other family members dogs that I have been around and spent time with. Also, ask your friends and family to write you a few reviews based on your experience with animals. It helped me a ton and I got requests within my first week of signing up as a sitter.

Also, click on Calendar, and then click Confirm Availability (twice). I do this every day (I'm not sure this is necessary - can someone else comment?), to keep my profile at the top of the search results. This tells clients that your calendar is up-to-date via a banner at the top of your profile in the client's search results. They're more likely to call you if they see this banner because it says you've confirmed your calendar dates/openings.
I agree that the profile must be complete. And write down everything about you, your house, your family and your pets...the more information the better. If anything is unclear a client will just move on. Do you have lots and lots of photos? Get a couple of testimonials. Put in the first sentence or first paragraph something about your care that will make you stand out or make someone want to click on you out of curiosity. I know my dog loves kids and dogs and so I would prefer to book her at a home with kids and dogs so don't worry about that kind of stuff...someone will like you, so make sure they know enough about you to make the decision. I agree with posting on Craigslist but make sure that they can only contact you by signing up through Rover. And carrying business cards is a good idea. If you are out with the dogs and strike up a conversation with other dog owners, give them your card. I have done this at the carwash, sidewalk restaurant, etc. there are lots of places to run into other people with dogs. Make sure to create your promo code and include it on your card and social sites like CL and FB. Gotta get your clients that discount! Don't worry, Rover is catching on big time, someone will find your profile. Question: why is it hard to look at other sitter profiles? That should be pretty easy.
Create your custom code and url, include them on your card. A client will go directly to your online profile without having to search. From there they can check out your info/photos. They use your discount promo code if they are new to Rover. You can order cards from Rover.
