Can my dog be allergic to some cats but not all cats?

My dog suffers from allergies, and while he has always been around cats, he seems to become worse when in the vicinity of my daughters cat who is an indoor cat. My daughter just recently moved in temporarily and has a cat that she keeps in her room. I personally have 4 cats but they are outdoor cats. They have a pet door that leads to the sun room and they are free to roam the property. My dog does not have a problem with any of them and even one of them is allowed indoors as she is a special needs cat. My dog seems to becomes severely congested when ever my daughter allows her cat to roam the house. To me, it seems obvious that the problem is the cat but my spouses refuses to believe that is the case.

Yes! Just like with people, dogs can be allergic to some cats more than others. Some dogs are allergic to cat saliva, some it's their fur, and some it's dander. It can vary from cat to cat. Indoor cats tend to be cleaner, but their fur tends to be more "around" places where they spend the most time...inside! Outdoor cats tend to carry in pollen and whatever else from the outside.

An allergy test from your vet will be the best way to determine what the cause is, and get the dog on medication to help.
