When sitters watch a dog in the owners home, do you charge for each dog or just by the night?

You can charge however you like.

Unless you establish an additional pet discounted rate, Rover's system will automatically charge full price for each pet. When you set up your rates, you can have an additional dog rate that is less. You can make that fee a nominal amount or even nothing, if you so desire.

I also do a base rate and discounted rate for additional dog. If either the owner or sitter expected multiple dogs to be looked after for the price of 1, chances are, they don't take great care or put a lot of thought into the needs of each dog.

I prefer the base rate + a discounted rate for each additional dog setup.

I've seen many new Rover clients are packing multiple dogs (up to six, I've seen!) into their profiles under one dog. To be fair, if you're looking at the dogs for a sitter and they haven't set up a special "additional dog" rate, that can look high.

But taking care of six dogs is more work than one. I won't do it at the same rate as one. Not to mention older dogs with special needs. I discuss with the client, and if I get a good feeling about them, and a good understanding of the needs of the dogs, then I'll adjust accordingly. If they immediately throw a fit about cost -- which some have -- I politely say I'm not available that weekend and move on.

It is up to the individual sitter to set their own rates. I discount additional dogs because they are usually not much more care than one in house sitting assignments. I charge $5 for cat care per day if there are dogs present, otherwise I charge the same as for a dog. I call it the 'inconvenience factor' - I am away from my home and normal routine.
