Why do you charge holiday rates on non-holiday days?

I'm travelling for 5 weeks which include two (2) days designated as holidays - why are you defaulting to the holiday rate?

This is a complete rip-off and fundamentally holds your clients and their pets to ransom.

Because we have to sit at home so I charge more because I can and I'm worth it.

Fixing this can be easily addressed through discussions with your sitter, who can set up several individual bookings so that the whole five weeks isn't included in a single holiday job.

Because every sitter on Rover is independent, he or she decides on holiday rates and coverage. My customers who go away for lengthy weekends around holidays do pay holiday rates for every day. The same holds true for the weeks around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. However, from reading comments on these boards, there are going to be sitters who may only charge a holiday rate on the holiday itself. So it pays to ask and work with your sitter.

Good morning, Are you American or Canadian? The reason why I ask is because Rover being an American company they go by American holidays which are sometimes different than Canadian holidays so for us Canadians, the holiday schedule is off.

Either way, you can always contact your sitter and ask them if they would readjust the price of those two days. I know that as a sitter, it would be my pleasure to accommodate you on this issue, even more on such a long booking and if those days are not truly holidays. I would simply contact the sitter, I am sure they will gladly fix this for you and it is something that can be done fairly quickly as well. The last thing any of us sitters want, Rover included, is to make you feel like you are being taken advantage of and we will work with you to make sure you are happy and at peace while your dog is in a Rover sitter's care.

Thx for the quick response, So it sounds like the system isn't flexible enough to differentiate between holidays and normal days, and that you are suggesting the sitter temporarily adjusts their published rates while we book and then pay the adjustment for the 2 x holidays in cash. Thanks.

Canadian sitters have to use American holidays? That makes zero sense. Any company should be able to handle such variations in its billing system. Foreign ownership never overrides local customs.

Karen, I'm in the USA, not sure why that came into this thread.

I never said Canadian sitters have to use American holidays but that Rover's calendar uses American holidays being an American company and could explain why this client got charged a holiday fee on non holiday days. You can always as a sitter choose to use Rover's holiday calendar or make your own

As I wrote in my own answer, a sitter can do whatever he/she wants, but I am astonished that Rover's system cannot handle multiple holiday schedules. Any decent programmer could ensure that Canadian sitters' billings are processed against their own holiday calendar. This is really basic.

Nampetch you should ask your sitter if they will manually adjust the rate for you to charge the holiday rate only for the holiday dates and their regular rate for the rest of the trip. It can all be paid through Rover (sitters have the ability to change the numbers generated by Rover's system - no cash needs to be involved).

As a sitter, I typically charge the holiday rate for a few days around the holiday. For example, Labor Day is Monday 9/4, but I charge the holiday rate for any bookings from 9/1 to 9/5. If a client had dates outside of this, I would charge my regular rate for those, and the holiday rate for the holiday dates. I think of it like a hotel - rates are higher on "in demand: dates that people typically book due to holidays, not just the actual holiday itself.
