What determines what position you come up as in a search?

I have always come up in a search first or second. I seem to be dropping down but have been working consistently. I always respond within minutes to a request and send pictures daily when I am on a job.

I have noticed lately people have been entering a date just to "meet" in their search for a dog sitter but they have no immediate need to book a job. So I end up meeting them but then having to archive the date to release it. Does that affect your position on a search?

I have huge issues with Rover's so called algorithms, they are pure BS. I have some of the highest numbers in my area, all numbers together, reviews, repeat clients, amount of photos and videos, Rover promo code usage and still I find myself super low in the search, I even find myself lower than people who do not even service my area when I search in my area. I have contacted them many times and always get BS generic responses so I wouldnt put too much faith in their so called system.

Been there. Done that. The most idiotic so-called search algorithm ever, plus the inability to easily search by zipcode, which means a great deal in an urban area where clients may not even have cars. I've given up on them.

I have been trying to post some thing, and it keeps being denied,. But Rover is denying me to be at the top of the list, I have been doing this for four years and now I am number 32. I spoke to two managers and they are not helping me.

Instead, they have sitters at the top of the list! These new sitters have only been doing this for a short period of time getting all the business! I see these posts from 2017, and I’m realizing that Rover does not care about their season sitters

You came up third when I searched, which doesn't seem so horrible to me. Wait until you've been here a year and your profile is on page 15. :-(

When you are new, Rover helps you get some initial customers by putting you at the front of search results. After awhile, you will be subject to the vagaries of Rover's search algorithm.

I agree...with only four reviews for you to show up on the first page is incredible! be thankful.

We have the same problem, we are among top performers on the area with 99 reviews, 0 cancelations, all 5 stars, probably 4 years on the platform, quick response, and we send multiple updates to dog owners during the day. How ever we show on the 3rd page now, we keep going further and further down the list. It is ridiculous

This is happening to me as well, I reached out to Rover and spoke to two managers, and they are not fixing anything. They are only catering to new sitters.

There are many factors that Rover uses in its search algorithm, and it's always been a mystery. They've never explained it to anyone's satisfaction.

If you archive a request with owner's plans changed or owner didn't respond, it won't affect your performance score which is separate from the search algorithm.

On my end, I have 49 reviews (the most on the first page of my search) and the next highest has 11 (happens to be my boyfriend lol). He comes up #1 most of the time and I come up... like #10?? It makes absolutely no sense.

The algorithm doesn’t make sense, and I have called Rover about this multiple times. I have always been in the top five in my area for the past four years, I’m down to number 33. It appears all the calls to Rover are not taken seriously.

Rover will lose good sitters, and probably has been losing good sitters. But they won’t fix their algorithm.

Another way to keep your profile at the top is to keep your calendar up to date at all times. Make sure your availablility is updated. Send pictures/videos daily, Make sure you archive stay dates if they don't respond within 24-48 hours in order to free up the stay dates. That should help you stay at the top. Hope that helps.
