Anything with glucosamine & chondroitin should help. I like using holistic and natural stuff like blue & green lipped mussels which are found in the New Zeland foods, ZiwiPeak and K9 Natural. But The Honest Kitchen sells some treats with that as the main ingredient. Orijen &a Acana are great dog food brands that contain a good amount of glucosamine & chondoitin according to their nutritional labels. Another good one is the Mad About Organics Healing Liniment which you just rub on, topically. I hope this helps!

I have an older dog (Dalmatian) who in his younger years used to be extremely active. Back in the day, I was only a student so I had a lot of time to be able to take Max for long runs (I was bike riding or roller blading and he would run by my side.) A few years back when we moved to a bigger house with staircases, I noticed even when he was fine walking long distances, when it came to go up the stairs he would take one step at the time and limp a little bit. I didn't worry to much because he never really complained and I though it was normal for his age.
About a year ago every time he would get up, I started noticing he would put more effort on his front legs to get up and would cry in pain. I took him to the Vet, and after a mobility exam he pretty much diagnosed him with "senior arthritis" that could be easily relieved with Joint Health Supplements. I tried giving him supplements with high doses of Glucosamine & Chondroitin from expensive brands (GNC). But it only worked for a little bit and it was a pain to give it to him (based on his body weight I had to give him 4 huge pills, that even when they were peanut butter flavor, he wouldn't eat it without me tricking him.) The whole ritual would take me about 15-20 minutes every morning!
I continued doing research from asking other dog parents about different brands and products they had tried, the veterinarian, dog's blogs and websites, until I found DASUQUIN with MSM by Nutramax. It's also expensive but totally worth it!! It contains Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSN. MSM is especially popular as part of an arthritis diet and supplementation plan to treat arthritis or osteoarthritis/degenerative joint disease since it helps form connective tissue and repair joints, tendons and ligaments. For the first 30 days you have to give them 2 soft chews with food (make sure not to give it to them with an empty stomach because they are quite strong and will make them sick) and after the first 30 days you just give them 1 soft chew with their food for maintenance.

Ever since I started giving it to him religiously every day he is doing better and even runs again when I take him to the dog park. When I know he had a little more physical activity than usual I would give him double dose and he is doing great!! I know what you are probably thinking, it's a lot of money for supplements! But if you have a sneaky pet like Max, who would spit the supplement so you give him more treats; which eventually makes them gain weight, not to mention it will make them heavier and ergo harder for them to move, plus take you 20 minutes a day just ...
