Why does my dog shake her head so much?

After working at a veterinary hospital, the most common cause of head shaking are ear mites. You could tell by looking at your dog's inner ear and finding reddish brownish crust. Most forms of ear mites are bacterial, so be sure to ask your veterinarian for a gel or liquid ear mite solution. They can come in the form of drops, gel, or cream. You can also clean your dog's ears to prevent any further infections or buildup.

There could be a few different reasons he would be shaking his ears. 1. There is a foreign body lodged in his ear. 2. He has a lot of ear wax built up 3. Possible ear infection 4. Masses or polyps 5. Allergies Either way if the shaking continues you may want to take him to the vet just to make sure.

That's a good question! My mom's dog does the same thing, and she cannot figure out why. I noticed that he has floppy ears, so they do not get aired out as often as a dog with upright ears. If you have ruled out serious medical conditions, she may just need to have her ears cleaned more regularly or it can be a behavioral thing (think OCD).
