Should I purchase Rover.com's Protection Package?

Have you ever actually used the "ask a vet" feature? I know it only covers 5 questions and most information can be found online for free. Is it worth it for the $50 price tag?

I used the ask a vet service today about a client's diabetic dog and insulin instructions the owners gave me that didn't make sense, given what I was seeing in the dog's behavior. The vet responded right away , but it wasn't very helpful. She said she couldn't answer for legal/license reasons and referred me to the dog's vet for an answer. I do understand caution for legal reasons, but will all questions result in merely referring to the dog's own vet? If so then the value of the protection package is a marketing advantage for the sitter but may not be worth the annual fee. Would like to hear others sitters' positive experiences with ask a vet services, so we can evaluate if the cost is beneficial. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this, Kathy! Isn't that what we're Paying for, to have that access?! I'm interested in hearing what others experiences are too!

I haven't actually used the service yet, so I can't speak to that, but I did purchase it when I first signed up for Rover. My thoughts were that the badge would help my profile stand out and give potential clients peace of mind, especially since I didn't have any reviews or testimonials at that point. At a M&G yesterday, the owner (who was new to Rover) mentioned contacting me first mostly because of my badges- so I don't have any regrets about my "investment" in the Protection Package. I doubt that I will renew it next year now that I'm more established, though.

I have had the protection package since the very beginning and while I do have my own insurance and access to vets, and have not had to use it, I do find it helpful in attracting new clients who you may not otherwise get ((because it's an extra badge and looks great to potential clients)).

Rover.com may blacklist me for this answer, but here it is....

I make sure to have the name and number of my clients' vets, and have actually called those vets on two occasions (once trying to get to the bottom of separation anxiety and once when a senior petizen client lost a tooth [!!!] ). They have been very happy to help.

I also would have no qualms about calling my own vet in a pinch.

On the other hand, if you want the badge go for it.

I too have called my client's vets, who have complete medical information specific to the dog, which I prefer especially for dogs that arrive with medical conditions/meds& seniors. They have been very happy to help answer questions. For more general questions, I have also called my own.

I know this is an older post but wanted to give my 2 cents. I do have the protection package and emailed the vet regarding our adopted dog and general questions. They researched and responded within a couple hours. I don't know if I would call them in an emergency and instead call the owner and rover service. -Kathleen
