Why do dogs sneeze while they play?

My dog constantly sneezes and blows her nose whenever she plays with her best friend. Why does she do this?

Comments

My two dogs do this, as well. What I have read and been told by a trainer is that they do it to communicate with the other dog that it is play. It helps keep rough play from being interpreted as aggression.

My dogs do the same and is because they are exited and they like their friend or a person, is a way to communicate and I love it!!!

Sneezing is another way dogs communicate with one another. When they sneeze while playing it tells the other dog this is just play nothing more. Dogs also sneeze when they are excited or if you are doing something they like.

Allergies or grass seed gets up their nose.

That sneeze is not the same as an itchy nose, it's a signal that tells the other dog that this is play and helps keep it from escalating into something more serious. Head turning- when your dog greets a strange dog or person have you ever seen him turn his head or eyes to the side or even turn completely sideways.

It can be because they lift dust when they play or perhaps they are bumping noses or moving them, as part of their communication. https://www.whydodogs.com/dogs-sneeze-when-playing/ (link text)
