Not to scare you, but at times dogs snap at the air because they can be showing symptoms of a partial seizure. A partial seizure is caused by abnormal electrical activity within a relatively small portion of the brain. This occurred in my pup right before he passed away :( This isn't always the case, but it's definitely something to consider.
