Why does my dog scoot on the carpet?

Scooting whether on the ground or the carpet leaves behind a little scent marking as the dog empties some of his anal sac glands. If the dog is doing this much, his anal sacs may be full and causing discomfort. You should look under the tail for signs of irritation or swelling. If you see that, then take your dog to a vet who can empty the gland and also palpate the area to determine if there may be any tumors.

Everything from flea bites and allergies to anal gland disorders and gastrointestinal diseases can lead to scooting. The best thing to do is see your veterinarian.
