This can be to alert you to a bathroom need, hunger need, boredom/desire to play, or separation anxiety.
Dogs often pace due to high anxiety. If something is new in it's environment it could cause a spike in the anxiety which could make the pace, drool, shake, and whine. Try giving a high reward treat, try reassuring the dog as well by speaking in a calmly manor and gentle pets.
