How should I stop my dog from humping?

I find the first answer in this string a little disturbing. Yes, dogs hump for many different reasons, but I don't think anyone should treat it as acceptable behavior...especially at a dog park, where I have seen it lead to dog fights more than once! If you think humping is okay behavior, then let your dog hump YOU, in the privacy of your own home. If not, then the second person's answer here says it all. You need to talk to someone about behavior modification techniques, which is definitely easier said than done. At the very least, call him to you, distract him, whatever it takes to stop the rude behavior before things escalate, or just become annoying!

In complete agreement. Especially considering it often isn't mutually reciprocated and the humping dog can also injure the dog he or she is humping.
If your dog is spayed or neutered then it may be a behavioral issue. There is huge misconception about humping, it is not necessarily a bad behavior! Humping can be a variety of things. 1. Play. Yes, it is associated with play! It is not always sexual or about dominance. 2. Dominance. 3. Stress relief. My personal dog does this at the dog park. When two dogs are plying too ruff or loudly, he will jump on one and start humping, to relieve the stress between the two dogs and some for himself. This is actually quite common! So, bottom line is, humping is not always a bad behavior, its natural in play, stress relief and sometimes in establishing pack lines. Try to figure out why the dog is humping and if you really want to work on it, talk to a trainer.
If you see a behavior you don’t want to see all the dog’s life, then you need to stop it when you first see it. So if the dog is humping, distract them when they do it and then give them something else to do. That’s very important. You have to give them an alternative behavior. Give them a different toy. Play with them in an appropriate way.”

My dog constantly humping the cat he follows him everywere sniffing were hes been sitting allways licking cats bum . Wont settle when cats out .hes totally obsessed.and has nothing todo with us hes just wanting the cat.ive shouted at him smacked him . Tried playing.hes not bothered
get them neutered
Always spay and neuter your dogs. Discourage the behavior by saying No and taking their attention else where. Until a dog learns not to hump ,especially larger dogs, should not be left unsupervised around other dogs.
