Receiving Operator for Mars for almost 10 years. I unloaded all the Railcars and Trucks with all the ingredients and I have this to say about Mars Pet Products. Mars Family takes pride in keeping the Pets Safe and providing the best ingredients . I should know , I unloaded it.

Typically, the short answer to that is 'no.' There is a wealth of information out there regarding dog food, lots of opinions, lots of ideas, etc. I like to follow the reviews on www.dogfoodadvisor.com, which rates food by content and quality. I compare reviews, and then I search online for reasonably priced 4 or 5 star foods. If you know your price range per pound, you can compare prices online at places like amazon.com, chewy.com, and more - some big box retail stores have 4 star food too!
My best advice would be to do a little bit of research to find a decent quality food, and then occasionally check to be sure the star rating has not gone down every few months or so. Sometimes manufacturers change the recipe without notifying consumers in any way.

No! If given long term, pedigree can make dogs more prone to liver or kidney problems.

The first ingredient in this dog food is corn, corn is generally a filler. The second ingredient is poultry by-product meal, which is dried product from a slaughterhouse. Poultry by-products is slightly lower in quality then other meat by-products. The third ingredient is corn gluten meal. Gluten is the rubbery residue remaining once corn has had most of its starchy carbohydrate washed out of it. There are other fillers and ingredients that are not easily digestible.

The ingredients list of a dog food is the main thing I would look at. Start from the beginning to the end, is the largest amount of that ingredient.

I would recommend staying away from colored foods.

I would recommend better quality foods such as: Royal Canin, Science diet, Acana, Newman's Own, Organix, Natural Balance, Taste of the Wild, Wellness, Canidae

No, Pedigree is a sub-standard dog food As Sarah posted dog food advisor is a good source. But a word of caution, many dogs systems cannot handle some of the really high rated brands.

My dog lived 13 1/2 years and died of old age and he ate pedigree his whole life

My German Shepherd lived to be 17 eating Pedigree and my current German Shepherd is 13 and a half and still going. I was always perplexed by why they say this about Pedigree. I always hated to stray from Pedigree regardless the info I hear because Of the great results with my dogs.

Our Blue Healer she lived to be 15 years old and ate Pedigree all of her life.
