If your golden is in healthy shape with no food restrictions I would recommend a large breed dog food. If it is a puppy than large breed puppy food; an adult than large breed adult food; or a senior than large breed senior food. Each developing stages in the dogs life will require slightly different combinations of nutrients needed. Large breed puppies need a healthy balance of calcium while their bones are growing at a fast pace where as a senior dog who may be starting to get arthritis may need more glucosamine chondroitin to help lubricate those ouchy joints. Stick with one protein source such as chicken or fish and try not to change it up unless their are health reasons prompting you to do so. Dog's don't need variation in their foods like humans.

Golden Retrievers like all other dogs should have a well balanced diet that includes protein, fiber, fruits, vegetables, and all necessary vitamins and minerals. Do your research on dog foods to find the proper one for your pet. Avoid by-products, corn, wheat, fillers, and any other unnecessary ingredients. I have five dogs who love and absolutely thrive on V-Dog. Good luck on your food search!
