My dog is afraid of me, what should I do?
This is a question that we often get from sitter and owners who work with Rover. Help the community out by answering them in our forum!
Without knowing more about the dogs history it is hard to say why, but in time you can lessen your dogs fear. First off, don't force the dog. Try sitting on the floor so you seem less threatening. Avoid eye contact and maybe have a few tasty treats. If the dog keeps his/her distance you can quietly toss the treats in their direction. Use a soft voice and avoid making any sudden movements. It can take time but if you are consistent you should be able to help your dog overcome his/her fear.
Act comfortable around the dog, not anxious or worrisome. Play with them and have fun with them, with time they should definitely warm up to you.
