asked 2017-01-21 20:25:39 -0500

My dog digs in his bed before laying down... and I can't figure out why! Is he looking for something? I don't this there's any hidden food. Why does he do this??

Dogs like to dig in their bed to find a sense of comfort. It is completely normal! they try to move the fabric around just like how we flip our pillows or angle them a certain way before bed!

Dogs do this to fluff their bed. Just like us humans fluff our pillows and blankets, they like to get their bed all fluffy and comfy, ready for some snuggles :)

Dogs have sweat glands in the pads of their paws. This "digging" motion is actually them marking their bed with their scent without having to pee where they sleep.

Dogs try to dig around in their bed either out of boredom or comfort. Sometimes they like to move around or fluff their bed just like people like to fluff up their pillows- they're just trying to create a comfortable "nest" that they can curl up in to go to sleep.

Dogs love to nest, it's just instinct to dig a nice comfy hole to sleep in

It's a comfort thing! They want to find that perfect spot. My dog even spins in a circle a few times to make sure she gets extra comfy!
