Why does my dog howl for no reason?

When dogs howl there are various reasons. Howling is a form of dog communication such as attracting attention to people or other animals they are there. Some dogs are sensitive to high pitch sounds like sirens and dog whistles. Some dogs that have separation anxiety and left home alone will howl for attention and neighbors usually let the pet parent know their dog howls all day - as a complaint. Dogs may also howl due to pain or injury. If your dog is howling and it's not normal for the pet or more than usual they need a visit to the veterinarian to rule out medical causes.
