Why is my dog vomiting yellow?

I don't know what my dog ate but he's throwing up and it seems to be yellow in color. Should I take him to the vet or will this pass??

If it seems foamy/saliva-like and is yellow in color, it sounds like it is probably stomach bile. Dog's usually throw up bile as a result of anxiety or if they have an empty stomach. If this continues, you should certainly make an appointment with his vet for an exam. For now, I would hold his food for about 12 hours, but be sure to leave out plenty of fresh water. After that, you can either offer him small amounts of his regular food or boiled boneless, skinless chicken breast with plain white rice to ensure that he is able to hold food down (this is a bland meal, and therefore easy to digest). If so, you can increase his food intake in intervals. I would keep an eye out for any diarrhea that may occur in addition to the vomiting. Also, dehydration is a common effect of vomiting/diarrhea.

This sounds like he is vomiting stomach bile. My dog does this if he goes more than 12 hours without eating. If you are only feeding once a day try switching it to twice, if feeding twice try breaking it into three sessions. If it keeps happening your dog may have acid reflux. My dog is on pepcid (like for humans) at the recommendation of our vet. I would of course check with your vet no matter what.

I did not see date but good advice for anyone with vomiting dog I agree with the advise already given. We don't know anything about your dog like age, breed, if he could have gotten into something, what he usually eats, his medical history. There are a lot of things that can cause vomiting. It could be nothing or it could be something serious like an intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, etc. If your dog is small like a yorkie he could become hypoglycemic from withholding food for a period of time. If your dog is not small I agree with Hillary as to what and when to feed after vomiting. i do want to add not to let your dog drink a lot of water at once. This can cause your dog to vomit again. After vomiting offer water frequently but small amounts until he feels better. Ice cubes are a good option if he wants to drink too much water at once.

Other things to keep an eye on are his activity level. Is it normal or is he depressed or lethargic? Check gum color to make sure it's nice and healthy pink, not pale or brick red (dark red) or blue.. Do his gums feel tacky when touched by finger? Does he want to eat? Is breathing normal? If any of these things are not normal or if vomiting continues have him examined by a Veterinarian.

Yellow and foamy is normally stomach bile. it means they didn't have enough to eat or their stomach is irritated. This normally goes away on its own once they are fed.

Does this typically happen right before feeding time? This is a pretty common side effect of acid reflux. Some dogs will vomit yellow bile when their stomach gets too empty (typically right before it's time for their next meal). An easy solution to this is to feed your dog more often (but not more in quantity) so that there is always a little bit of food in the belly. So for example: instead of feeding breakfast and dinner, feed a breakfast, an early dinner and then add a late night meal right before bed. OTC human antacids can also help, but you must consult your veterinarian on dosing, as it varies based on the dogs weight and will not be comparable to human dosing.

My dog throw up yellow bile with grass in it every time after consuming grass from someone's yard. Not sure whether the grass cause that.

It sounds like bile. This can happen if the dog has not eaten lately or has acid reflux. If it happens regularly or your pet stops eating, you should contact your veterinarian.
